As a saying goes, “Good teachers know how to bring out the best in students” is parallel to the saying “A good leader knows how to bring out the best in an organization. It only implies that bringing out the best in a school organization is giving priority to its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Assessing the needs of an organization is like diagnosing a disease. A leader is identifying the nature of the problem. That’s the best opportunity for a leader to see what’s on the other side of the organization’s goal.
In a school environment, assessing the needs of the learners will definitely improve the teaching and learning process. It is a school plan which needs to be addressed to enhance the performance of the learners and teachers as well. For instance, the learner’s poor performance in Science Laboratory in this distance learning needs to be assessed by the classroom teachers. If not addressed right away will bring a negative impact on the teacher’s performance and eventually on the whole organization.
Needs assessment equals school improvement. An effective school head thinks about the future road of the organization. He systematically examines, identifies, understands, and prioritizes the needs that must be addressed to improve learning outcomes. When the school head effectively strategizes to diagnose the roots of the problem, then he will come up with the correct data and address what really the problem is. Careful planning comes next, and the goal of the organization continues. This is the main role of a visionary leader – to give the best future to the organization.
